Staff
Lucia Kuffova, MD, PhD, FRCOphth
Miss Kuffova is a highly qualified, skilled and caring ophthalmologist with 29 years of experience. She has wide-ranging expertise in inflammatory eye disease, medical retina and other retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration. Miss Kuffova also has extensive experience in small incision and complex cataract surgery. This provides her not only with general experience of common eye conditions, but also with an in-depth knowledge of rare and complex disorders of the middle (uvea) and back (retina) layers of the eye. She is trained in vitreoretinal and cataract surgery, intravitreal drug delivery as well as retinal and anterior segment laser surgeries. Miss Kuffova studied medicine at the Charles University of Prague, Czech Republic and trained at the Eye Departments of Charles University from 1996 and at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland from 1998. From 2008 to 2024, Miss Kuffova worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist Vitreoretinal Surgeon in the Eye Department of the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Scotland where she was the clinical lead from 2020 to 2023. While working at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Miss Kuffova was also a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen where she conducted research on immunology of corneal graft rejection, experimental uveitis and diabetic retinopathy and has published over 50 papers on topics including diabetic retinopathy, clinical and experimental uveitis and corneal graft rejection. She has coauthored a book on Corneal Transplantation (Corneal Transplantation: An Immunological Guide to the Clinical Problem) and contributed chapters to four other books on ocular inflammation (Fundus Autofluorescence, Complications of Vitreo-retinal Surgery, Copeland and Afshari's Principles and Practice of Cornea, Encyclopedia of the Eye). In 2024, Miss Kuffova moved full time to Bermuda, where she has treated Insight’s clients with many types of eye conditions including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract and other diseases of the eye and ocular adnexa. |
Karin Kueper, MD
Dr. Karin Kueper is a German ophthalmologist who went to medical school in Munich, Germany and trained as an ophthalmologist at the University of Munich and Tuebingen, Germany. After her training, she worked as a consultant ophthalmologist at the University of Tuebingen, Germany, University of Brussels, Belgium, Katharinenhospital Stuttgart, Germany, Tortola Vision Center (British Virgin Islands) and the University of Zurich. She has written numerous publications, held lectures at national and international conferences and is co-author of a book about tumours of the eye and eyelids. Presently, she holds active medical licenses in Bermuda, the UK, Switzerland and Germany and is serving patients at Insight Comprehensive Eye Care as a locum doctor. Dr. Kueper is a passionate general ophthalmologist with special expertise in cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery, cornea surgery and glaucoma surgery. Additionally, she loves to take care of patients with macular degeneration. |
Jenny Faries, BA, OC(C)
Jenny Faries is a Bermudian who trained at Dalhousie University in Canada to become a certified orthoptist in 2016. She evaluates many difficult eye-related complaints, such as double vision, lazy eye or crossed eyes, droopy eyelids, and abnormal eye movements such as nystagmus. As an orthoptist, she is not only responsible for evaluating and helping to diagnose eye movement issues, but is also highly trained to identify visual issues in babies and children. She works alongside ophthalmologists Dr. Lucia Kuffova and Dr. Karina Kueper to provide a holistic and comprehensive range of diagnostics and treatments for eye health. |
